Ascella's vineyard is one of the most isolated in the Hunter Region. It's also the largest organic vineyard in the Hunter Valley and one of the largest in Australia.

Location

The Hunter Valley’s dominant Geological features are the Hunter River and its tributaries and the Brokenback mountain range. The Hunter’s wine growing area stretches inland from the Central Coast line of NSW. The location is hot but temperate and dry, perfect for growing grapes with rich, well balanced flavours with good longevity.

Premium grapes come firstly from balancing the elements; soil, weather, water and beneficial organisms, and secondly by balancing the quantity of grapes on the vine to the grapevine vigor and leaf canopy to ensure the grapes are properly ripened, and at the most desirable time of the season. At Ascella Pure Wine, the grapes are planted in East-West rows to create a filtered light to the grapes through a balanced leaf canopy.

The result is properly vine-ripened grapes, and at the best time of the season to ensures the grape tannins are low and the wine produced from such grapes is of the highest quality.

The vineyard itself is vibrant with life; many birds and animals are attracted by a stream flowing through the middle. The hills of the national park around the vineyard are the night roosting grounds for the massive flock of cockatoos that live in the region, as well as numerous varieties of parrots.

Natural Protection from Contaminants

Because our location is away from other vineyards and agriculture, we can protect the purity of our wine. Contaminants often travel by wind from neighbouring farms in heavy agricultural areas. We test the grapes regularly throughout our vineyard to monitor their purity.
